Senior Editor

The Senior Editor is able to manage projects from contracting all the way to the printer, supervising and coordinating the editorial process and when necessary, hiring freelance editors, copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers, and other editorial workers as needed. The Senior Editor contributes content analysis of proposals in the acquisitions meetings and shapes the editorial direction for all books as assigned by the Vice President of Product Development or Publisher.

Vice President of Product Development

  • Agrees with Charisma Media’s vision statement, beliefs, and values and those of the Charisma House Book Group.
  • Participates in the acquisition process, providing editorial feedback on proposals, and conceptualization new books with summaries and annotated outlines as requested by the Vice President of Product Development or Publisher.
  • Provides content direction for each title assigned, working with in-house editors as well as with sales and marketing to insure each title is properly developed and positioned
  • Provides accurate cost estimates for writing, editing, copyediting, proofreading, cover design, and page production of all book products assigned.
  • Manages the design process for book covers, coordinating input from the author, in-house marketing team, in-house designers, and delivering a final front cover to marketing according to in-house schedule.
  • Disseminates project information to manufacturing, marketing, sales, and other departments as needed.
  • Reviews submitted manuscripts for any projects assigned and approves them for publication. Maintains communication with authors through editing process, even when manuscripts are handed off to developmental editors.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, acquisitions meetings, and other related meetings as requested by Vice President of Product Development.
  • Provides scheduling input for any projects assigned, tracking projects and ensuring warehouse dates and deadlines
  • Maintains an adequate pool of freelance editorial contacts.
  • Performs substantive edit steps for assigned projects, including: content flow and syntax, transitioning, tightening to reduce redundancies, expansion as necessary, scripture check and verification of all source documentation issues.
  • Maintains Book Group issues of style and quality.
  • Abides by all policies and procedures of Charisma Media.

Vice President of Product Development or Developmental Editor

·Required: bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related area of study; at least three years’ experience in the editing process of books; familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style
·Preferred: familiarity with Charismatic/Pentecostal markets

Excellent planning and communications skills, ability to handle numerous projects at one time, accurate and efficient, detail oriented, excellent grammar skills, ability to take direction, good eye for consistency in layout, ability to type 50 words per minute, proficient in Word, Excel, PC operations, and Internet, some knowledge of InDesign and MAC operations desirable.
