Part Time Book Production Artist

Charisma Media’s Book Production Team is seeking a highly detailed book production artist to provide typesetting, book interior layout, and ongoing file maintenance of new and previous titles for our English and Spanish books.

• Process reprints according to job tickets: update files, upload files, etc.
• Update files promptly, multiple times throughout project, complete any corrections
• Provide general materials and file maintenance
• Fulfill any one-off requests for client departments
• Proof all designed files before delivering to imprint teams
• Occasionally design and typeset interior of new books according to CMS standards, making sure to fit in the allotted page count
• Maintain proactive attitude to ask questions on time and resolve issues within project's agreed schedule
• Meet all deadlines: processing reprints, proofing reprints, proofing press proofs, and for First Pages
• Spell check, look for unwanted colors, double-check resolution on all images in file, and flag to clients
• Scan, color-correct, edit, and check resolution on any artwork needed for interior
• Proof, preflight, and prepare PDF’s for printer according to their respective specs
• Review/approve press proofs
• Troubleshoot any problems that may arise with a project
• Provide sample files to client departments
• Log time by project and report monthly
• Provide back up for other production artists
• Adhere to Charisma Media Book Group Style Standards
• "2nd-Mile Attitude" to do projects right and complete the first time, then expect to receive more project offers thereafter
• Abide by all policies stated in company Employee Handbook

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Graphic design or equivalent experience.

• Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Proficiency-to-expertise in current/recent-compatible versions of Adobe InDesign (typesetting software). Proficiency-to-expertise in current technical and legal standards for online acquisition of for-sale graphics/illustrations/etc.
• Communicate effectively to resolve issues in a timely manner within project's agreed schedule: Style Standards, content, text, design/graphics, layout/spacing/etc.
• Proactive to ask questions on time, within project's agreed schedule.
• Must be familiar with style sheets, master pages, proofreader marks, and long documents.
• Must be thoroughly knowledgeable with Mac OSX and Adobe Acrobat with a basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
• Effective communication skills, problem-solving skills, and an eye for detail.
• Must possess the ability to multi-task and work well under deadlines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required sit for long periods of time. Must be able to listen and speak effectively on the phone and with other team members.

The work environment is a normal professional office setting. Although very fast paced, it is pleasant environment, which includes cordial relationships.
